Consultations during a pandemic
Where possible some of your needs can be taken care of with virtual phone or video consultations with the doctor of your choice. Face to face appointments are available for Covid-19 symptom free patients, after consultation with our clinical staff.
About us
Located at 503 Blockhouse Bay Road, Auckland, we were established in the 1950’s. We currently have 5 full time GP Drs (2 Male and 3 Female), 2 full time Nurses and 1 Healthcare Assistant.

A Celebration of Service: Dr Shanthi Selvakumar Awarded the King’s Service Medal
The team at Blockhouse Bay Medical is delighted and immensely proud to announce that our esteemed colleague, Dr Shanthi Selvakumar, has been awarded the King’s Service Medal (KSM) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours. This prestigious recognition is a testament to her tireless advocacy and more than three decades of unwavering commitment to our migrant and refugee communities.
For more than thirty years, Dr Shanthi has been a beacon of compassion for the most vulnerable among us. Her life’s work—through her clinical practice, community leadership, and longstanding devotion to Shakti Women’s Refuge—has provided a sanctuary for countless women and children navigating the complexities of hardship and family violence. Her efforts have not only offered immediate care but have charted pathways towards safety, stability, and renewed hope for those she serves.
A cornerstone of our practice for three decades, Dr Shanthi has cared for three generations of families, weaving her influence into the very fabric of our clinic. We are immensely proud to see this legacy continue through her daughter, Dr Kierrtana, who joined our team five years ago and is a Fellow of both the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.
We are deeply honoured to walk alongside Dr Shanthi and are thrilled to see her exceptional contributions to Aotearoa New Zealand formally recognised. Please join us in extending our warmest, most heartfelt congratulations to her on this significant and well-deserved honour.
